We are pleased to announce John Marchel, co-owner of Stover, Evey & Jackson, as the recipient of the 2015 Mary Zelinka Advocate for Social Justice Award. This award is given to a member of the community who goes above and beyond in their field to serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
John is dedicated to ending violence against woman and children and supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. His commitment can be seen both in the amount of time he spends volunteering to support survivors, and in the way he runs his business. John has spent countless hours volunteering for CARDV as a board member and serving on many committees, including the Men’s Coalition to End Violence (MCEV). The mission of the MCEV is to educate and motivate men to unite with women to end violence and discrimination against women and girls. John is one of many volunteers trained to facilitate group discussions about masculinity in the community.
John has created a culture within his business that stands up against sexual and domestic violence every day. By hosting a cell phone collection box, posting awareness flyers and event announcements, every person entering Stover, Evey & Jackson gets an introduction to CARDV. Through this introduction patrons receive a mini-education about sexual and domestic violence issues. John’s business has donated many appliances to our shelter program over the years, which John also maintains and repairs. This is no small task with over 200 adults and children sheltered per year! As a business owner and community member, John truly goes above and beyond for survivors in our community. Thank you, John for your dedication to survivors!
